Billy Campbell Earned His Sea Legs
You may recall that Billy Campbell took a break from the The 4400 to go on a sailing trip around the world. If you’ve never sailed before, or don’t know your way around a ship, then taking a sea voyage can be a huge undertaking. Just sailing as a passenger is one thing, but try being a part of the crew!
Billy had some great training for his voyage, as he was part of the lucky crew of the Picton Castle, which is a sailing ship with a lot of history. It started out as a simple fishing trawler in 1928, and has served since then as a minesweeper, freighter, and more recently a training ship.
At the web site for the Picton, you can also see the crew biographies and pictures. It’s a wondrous site that explains the history of the ship itself, along with information on all the voyages. There’s a picture of Billy there and I’ve included the short biography here (for William "Ollie" Campbell):
I’ve been pursuing acting since 1983 with work in television, film and theatre. I’m looking forward to learning everything I can that pertains to square-rig sailing. However, I’m trying not to have perceptions of what I might experience or the effect it may have. I hope to have gained some knowledge of seafaring and work at getting better at the fiddle.
I’m impressed with his love of adventure! Maybe the 4400 writers can work something into the script so that Billy can use his sailing experiences.
