More on Joel’s National Treasure Role
Back in July, Joel Gretsch gave a round of interviews, andĀ he talked about filming for the upcoming movie, NationalĀ
Treasure: Book of Secrets. We told you we’d have more updates on his role. He’ll be portraying the character, Thomas Gates. Here’s a snippet of an interview he did in which he talks specifically about his character in the movie. You can see the best parts here under the cut:
…HAVING HIS CAKE: "The 4400" lead Joel Gretsch ping-ponged between big and small screen work when the hit USA Network show’s producers made it possible for him to shoot the upcoming sequel "National Treasure: Book of Secrets." "I got the role on my hiatus," explains Gretsch, "but because of Nicolas Cage’s schedule they postponed the starting date, and we were already into filming the new season of ‘4400.’ The producers were so terrific. They let me fly down to Los Angeles. I’d film all day, then I’d fly back to be on the set the next day in Vancouver."
In the sequel, which has Cage’s intrepid treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates investigating the assassination of President Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth, "I play Nicolas’ great-grandfather in flashbacks," says Gretsch. "There’s a possibility that I’m involved in the assassination plot, so he’s trying to clear his great-grandfather’s name. It’s a wonderful story."…
It sounds like the movie is going to be spectacular, and perfect for a holiday release. You can skip the figgy pudding and devour this instead. We have the trailer for the movie here as well.

Hopefully, this will get Joel Gretsch more attention for his great acting and more, high-profile roles — but not so high that he opts out of The 4400 after Season 5!
However, Jerry Bruckheimer movies are the very thing smart shows like The 4400 are fighting against. They tend to be morally-simplistic and cheesy and eat up big budgets. I’m glad he’s got a role in something fun, but I can’t stand these sorts of films and I’m not going to see it.

Yes, we need him for Season 5!
What I find most interesting about these movies is that they challenge young minds. I have the opportunity to work with kids, and I love to hear them talking about the “eye” on currency, or the “declaration”.
