Scott Peters Announces The 4400 Canceled

by Alexandra on December 18th, 2007

With much sadness, I must inform you that Scott Peters has announced on the official 4400 site Forum Board that The 4400 TV show has been canceled. Here is what he had to say to all the fans of the show:

To all the wonderful fans of The 4400

It’s with great sadness that I pass along to you the information I’ve just received — The 4400 has been cancelled. We’ve had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters. Thank you especially to the folks on the board here whose tireless devotion to the show is nothing short of remarkable. Shout out to Bubba, by the way! I love your posts, man.

I just spoke to Joel and we had a great talk about what we all accomplished and how much we’ll miss our family that is our crew and our cast… and our fans. But at least we got to go out with a bang! I had an awesome time directing the last episode. I think I got to make almost every single cast member cry (on camera). How much fun was that?!

So let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end. Be well and on behalf of all of us at The 4400 — thank you, it’s been a pleasure.

    I can’t believe that… It’s a shame… I really wished a real end to the 4400 !!! I have no more interest in watching TV…

Tomorrow will never be positive !!!

Wow. Of all the news I expected to hear around this time, that wasn’t even close to being on my mind. Canceling “The 4400″ at this juncture truly reeks. I wonder what USA and NBC Universal are thinking by doing so.

The only positive aspect of the situation is the amount of work that many of the cast members are getting elsewhere. I hope they all find new long-term gigs soon; they deserve it.

Thanks for posting the news so quickly. I am heart-broken, to say the least. I’ve already written to both Jeff Wachtel, who loves the show, and President Bonnie Hammer; she’s the one Amy Berg said had to be persuaded. She kills BSG early and now this. The things people do for profit.

This looks like bad management, because i do not believe that the amount of viewers was too less for this serie.
Why would you cancel a good running serie like this, while other complete crap is airing.

The viewers would deserve a official letter why?

I’m not happy about this at all! I can’t believe it! You can’t tell me that there was not at least one more season that could have been had. This Suxs!

Man, this sucks. The worst part about it is that the 4400 didn’t really have an ending, we are left with a great show with no conclusion. That really bums me out, maybe another network will pick up season five or somethin, I don’t think they should be quittin on the show so quickly.

    Dec 19, 2007 at 5:16 am

This is definitely not what I wanted to hear. I don’t think the show was ever given the proper management for advertising it, etc. I do wonder if the writer’s strike added to this decision. The network doesn’t realize what a loss this is to them. The show had a decent number of viewers which to me was as good, if not better, than other shows were receiving. I really don’t think THE 4400 was given the respect it deserved.

I do want to thank all the writers and wonderful actors for bringing this show to life every Sunday. I’m glad many of the actors have found more work. Am still hoping for the best for the writers and and end to this strike. Now, if we can get the companion book for seasons 3 & 4 along with the DVD for the 4th season, we’ll have more closure.

We can’t let this happen… We MUST still work !!! Carry on to writing to :

By the way, I am trying to create an online petition (without replacing usual letters), so everyone will be able to give his support to the renewal of the show in an easy way….

  • Janet
    Dec 19, 2007 at 5:51 pm

Please don’t cancel this show. It is one of the few bright spots in summer TV viewing. It is so well written, and good clean fun, I would just hate to see it go. There have to be more stories to tell about this subject.

    Dec 19, 2007 at 5:58 pm

At least we have the 4400’s retarded nephew “Heroes.” Think of it as 4400 with lamer effects, worse dialogue, and blander characters. It should help mend the wound of this cancellation.

  • Alexandra
    Dec 19, 2007 at 7:52 pm

Joshua, thank you for such a great laugh…I needed that!

I agree with a lot of the comments here…that it’s tragic to end it this way.

Amandin has a great idea about writing too!

    Dec 19, 2007 at 9:13 pm

    Humor is welcome ;-)

We MUST write and we MUST sign the online petition from the official 4400 forum ! The show needs a real end !

By the way, there is a video link we can spread on blogs, websites and whatever you think could help.

NBC is canceling both the 4400 and Journeyman - my two favorite shows, which were both excellently written and made you think. Instead, I expect NBC will have more reality and Law & Order type fare. Well, I have learned my lesson, I will not be watching any other new series on network TV, if a show makes it, I may watch it on DVD (through Netflix), but f*#k NBC - I will not support it any more.

Hopefully, FOX or another network with a lick of sense will pick up both series and win the appreciation of these shows’ loyal fans.

To dave: Unfortunately, Fox is known for cancelling shows that even critically acclaimed (remember Firefly?). Face it everyone, these execs, suits or whatever the Fck they are don’t care about anything but profits and ratings. They don’t care how we feel.

What can I say, someone made a big mistake. How can you go from “The 4400 is Highest Rated and Most Watched New Series Premiere Ever on Basic Cable” in July 2004 to shutting down the season that EVERYONE waited for. I agree with everone alse on here… something has to be done. Im sure the execs who shut the show down prob dont even watch it, the handful of people who did this, are affecting the potential millions who look to this show for something great. They made a big mistake, I hope sci-fi (season 1 ) or anyone picks the 4400 back up and makes millions. Im really thinking about boycotting USA, dont get me wrong, Psych, Monk, Dead zone and Burn notice are Great shows, but from what I notice the 4400 still tops them all. People need to write letters, sign petitions. this is the only way to make this happen. I have sent one a day since I heard the news, and I have no problem pissing people off and I will continue to write a letter a day. If you want results do thew same, everyone will make a diffrence… I dont care if they have to put it on the damn home shopping network, it will be their best investment! SOMEONE PLEASE WAKE UP AND PUT THE 4400 BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE

Just saw the first episode of season one by chance last night at 1am. LOVED IT! couldn’t wait to tell my BF that we have to buy the series so I can catch up before the next season only to read about its cancellation. This is utter madness! So NBC/USA, what says you now? Huh? What should I do now? Buy the first 4 seasons and then WHAT! WTF!

Shall I send in a list of all my favorite shows? If they keep cancelling, I guess they’ll force me to leave the tv off. This is five of my shows that have been cancelled in the past six months. I just got into this one this past year. What a great show.

  • Marcus
    Dec 30, 2007 at 10:45 am

what a shame. In a time where flat 2D series like Heroes get all the fame despite being mediocre at most and a superb plot and complex characters gets axed, why is it that execs are surprised that everyone sees the end of good TV coming?

5th series is produced, not? Just put it online if there is anything for christs sake!

I’m very disappointed that “The 4400″ has been canceled…it would be nice to have some closure. Not that I expect anything, but a six-episode arc to close the show would have been nice and the right thing to do…I’m so bummed…

I have watched The 4400 since the very start and at the end of each series I eagerly awaited for the new series to air, constantly checking the next time date on the new series slots. Now with the terrible news that the show has been cancelled with no conclusion to the storyline is a travesty to me an avid viewer/fan of the show (amongst many others)

After all the time spent waiting, watching for what the next episode brings and getting to understand and a feel for each of the characters and their gifts on the show, for this to happen is just gut wrenching!

I honestly cannot understand why so many decent shows are pulled without even the slightest regard for the fans of the show and to leave a show without any resolvement is ridiculous.

I implore you to reconsider the cancellation of the show and bring it back for us all, the ones that count THE FANS!

I am so tired of getting invested in these shows only to be short changed and left hanging. I really contemplate more and more just not watching new series and waiting to see if they will have longevity and THEN if yes, rent/buy them on DVD. TV watchers are really going to need to start hitting them where it hurts (the pocket book) to change this crap.

Fans deserve at least a proper end!!
If the channel can’t afford a new season, at least give us 2 or 3 episodes more, with the same mini-series format which began the show, to make a conclusion.
Do it for the fans, but also for yourselves. You won’t be respected among the spectators if you do this kind of things.

I own all 3 series and (will own ) the forth…I was really hoping that there would be a 5th series to really end the story line in 4400 fashion..What a waste of time and MONEY if they dont somehow run a show (mini series) to make a GREAT ending to it…Sure hope they do something.

    I’m really dissapointed.
They can’t leave the 4400 this way with so many questions.
I really hope there will be a fifth season which ties up the story.
I was looking forward to a DVD collection box of the serie. But as it’s now I won’t buy it because why should I keep remind me of a good serie without ending?

They say, fictional stories are loved by escapists. People want to experience another life - life where they can be whoever they want - life away from what they really have. It is not, however, regarded as only a form of entertainment media. It is a temporary relief, a rest from reality.

Some people like me are having a hard time to deal with stresses and pressures that are put unto us. That is why we find time to sit for awhile, and let ourselves be engrossed into another life. We need to be freed from time to time from the reality so we can see it from outside.

Not all, however, fictional stories can do this. Only those which are able to penetrate through the people - only those that can touch lives.

That is why I thank the makers of this series for airing this show - even for a while.

This is horrible, we need to take action and mail/send letters or something else that really matters. I don’t know, but perhaps a mail list would be good? To let all people sign the chart and then send it to that adress that’s been linked a few times here.

I only have one question, WHY did they cancel it? I’ve been arguing with a friend at my place and he’s trying to convince me it was about the money, but serioulsy… all i’ve heard about this show is that it’s grown and become utterly famous and only titles like “Best newcoming series” and “Most Watchet” etc.

So why, oh why did they cancel it?
