The 4400 Guide - 4400 Spoilers and News

Joel Gretsch And Thoughts On Sci-Fi Thriller "Push"

by Alexandra on May 13th, 2008

The 4400’s Joel Gretsch is getting back to sci-fi roots in a supporting role for a new film project slated for 2009, called Push. According to IMDB, the film is about a group of young American ex-Patriots with abilities, such as telekinesis and the ability of seeing the future. They are also hiding from a governmental agency that wishes them to do their bidding.

The screenplay is written by David Bourla (Larceny, Frankenthumb) and the film is slated for direction by award winner, Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, The Acid House).

Read my take on Joel’s role, and whether we should see this movie and others like it after the JUMP.

Although the premise of the film is not so original, it seems to have some style to it, according to Joel Haber’s Screenwriting Blog. Joel Gretsch is to portray the father of character Nick Grant (Chris Evans of Fantastic 4), whom I assume is one of the ability-wielding characters. Camilla Bell, Dakota Fanning and Djimon Hounsou round out the star cast!

Is This Another Redo of The Same Stuff?
Although the premise of this film is similar (even the title reminds me of one of my favorite X-Files episodes…sorry) to other films, I still have hopes for it. Movies such as The Bourne series, and X-Men remind us of what could happen with a government agency or even mutants gone mad, and we feel the thrills, without the harsh reality. Of course, the contrasts make our lives seem so dull, but they take us away and entertain. So should we say, damn the similarities (for now), and have fun?

Some could say the premise of Iron Man is unoriginal. After all, a regular guy is bitten by a spider, or he fell into a vat of radioactive particles, or he was in a lab explosion that changed his molecular structure, whatever. You see what I mean.

No, he was in his garage, literally, and he was dirty with sweat, and he looked just like how my brother would look, working on a car, except he tinkered with his Iron Man suit (instead of his VW Bug).

See, Hollywood can make completely different magic, even with the same premise. So I hope Paul McGuigan is up to the challenge, and I look forward to seeing one of our 4400 stars make his mark on the big screen again.

1 opinion for Joel Gretsch And Thoughts On Sci-Fi Thriller "Push"

In my opinion there can never be enough movies or television shows with super human abilities. I live for that kind of stuff!

It’s cool that Dakota Fanning will be apart of the cast. Joel and Dakota may not have had any scenes together in their last project, ‘Taken’ but it’s still cool nontheless.

Also noticed that Chris Evans will take on the role of Joel’s son. Very nice!

And the other name that stuck out was Camilla Belle. I remember her ages ago from the Disney Original Movie, “Rip Girls”. I could never get enough of that film.

Despite the un-original premise, I nontheless look forward to the film. As I mentioned, I can never get enough of super human abilities.
