Poll: What’s Your Favorite Jeffrey Combs Role?

by Alexandra on June 12th, 2008

Jul 17, 1996 - Los Angeles, CA, USA - JEFFREY COMBS at 'The Frighteners' premiere. On the heels of the amazing news about The 4400’s Jeffrey Combs tapped for the lead in show runner Darin Scott’s film Dark House, our latest poll is all about Jeffrey. Besides his role as Dr. Kevin Burkhoff in The 4400, what is your favorite character that Jeffrey has portrayed?

My first favorite is the comedy/horror film, The Frighteners. What I loved about it is that it was deeply scary despite the comic aspects. It follows Michael J. Fox as a psychic detective who must stop a grim reaper like ghost. Combs portrayed the eccentric FBI Agent Dammers.

In House On Haunted Hill, Combs portrays the ghost of Dr. Richard Benjamin Vannacutt, a man who, while alive, performed horrible experiments and procedures when he was head of the Vannacutt Psychiatric Institute for The Criminally Insane. In the end of movie, he is represented as a dark force comprised of the unhappy ghosts who inhabit the asylum.

These ghosts get revenge on a group of people who are motivated by money to spend one night in the asylum. I thought Combs looked amazing as Dr. Vannacutt in the “experimentation” scenes that are scattered throughout the movie (as visions that the partygoers see).

Whether its horror, sci-fi, or crime drama, what’s your favorite?

    All of them! :D Hee.

Besides all these, I’ve always been partial to Lonnie Hawks in Death Falls and Andy Coberman in The Digital Prophet, but Jeff is amazing in whatever he does. :)

BTW, you should really change the last choice to Jimmy in Brutal, as Jeff gets a far better chance to show off what he can do with Jimmy in the pre-quel than BWVE.

BTW, it’s Richard Benjamin Vannacutt. :)

Thanks Elisa…weirdest thing, I saw both names and kept thinking I remembered it was Richard when I saw the movie. - fixed. :)

I agree about Brutal v. BWVE too. What a character!

He acted brilliantly on Ira Behr’s previous series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as both Weyoun and the Ferengi Brunt. Amazing performances!
